Updating your look, just in time for spring, is easy thanks to the award-winning team at Midlands Hairdresser of the Year Salon, Royston Blythe. We caught up with Nick to bring you all the advice you need to style a head-turning look for the new season.
What’s your favourite style for spring 2017?
Ultra-feminine, seductive waves are perfect for spring – they’re easy to maintain, effortless to style and completely versatile, whatever the occasion. How do we achieve the look? If you’re blessed with thick, luscious hair take random sections and wrap around your wand to create an unstructured look. If your hair is finer, consider opting for Rapture Hair Extensions, they’re natural, damage-free and are perfect for holding waves – as well as ensuring your hair looks lush, beautiful and healthy. Remember to always use the best heat protection shine spray your budget will allow for. At the salon we love Kerastase Elixir Ultime.
What colours are hot this season?
The soft, subtle – and ever popular – balayage colouring technique is here to stay. At the salon we tailor the colour to work for each individual client’s face shape and hair length. They’re plenty of playful colour options too, like beautiful rose gold tones, which are very flattering for many complexions. If you really want to push the boundaries with your colour though, then dark blues and light mint greens will be perfect for you this season.
How can our hair help us to look younger?
You can look amazing, whatever your age, with hair that’s been cleverly cut, coloured and styled. At the salon we use Rapture extensions to add volume to create a fuller, youthful look and because they’re taped into hair, they’re quick and easy to apply and don’t damage the natural hair at all. Colour is important too and the Balayage technique is incredibly effective for taking off the years. It works so well because the colour is multi-dimensional and the brightest ribbons of colour are placed around the face and on top of the hair to add warmth, mimic a natural sun-kissed look and create a youthful look. Warmer tones are always more flattering, so we advise our clients to choose golden tones for blondes, caramel tones for brunettes and coppers for red hair.
What about the cut?
Soft face framing layers, side swept fringes, and gentle wisps and waves are important to flatter every face shape for a youthful look. Keep the style feminine and full of dimension and choose short pixies, jaw-skimming bobs, fashion focussed lobs or simply lush long locks.
And finally, what can we do in-between salon visits to keep our hair looking great?
A dedicated home hair care routine and use monthly Kerastase FusioDose treatments to target specific hair issues. Don’t forget to eat well too, you can never underestimate the power of hair super-foods; keep blueberries, walnuts, eggs, avocado and salmon in your weekly diet.
