If your New Year’s resolution is to ‘try new things’ then maybe you should start with a new hairstyle.

It’s all too easy to opt for the same hair cut and hair colour year after year, but sometimes you need a change, and there’s no better time to break out of a style rut than at the beginning of a new year.

Whether you’ve got an idea of the sort of hairstyle you want to try, or don’t know where to start, you’ve got to find a salon that’ll be able to assess your overall look – as well as your hair type and needs – and find the cut and colour that’s perfect for you.

Below Nick talks us through the things you should consider when deciding on a new hairstyle : –

We all want to try a new look from time to time but it’s hard to know where to start, what do we need to think about?

hair colour Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton Hair SalonThe new year is always a really good time for taking a fresh look at your current style and colour and opting for a revamp.

Think about is what is best for you, what colour will be perfect for your skin and eye colour, what cut is most flattering for your face shape.

It’s easy to just choose a look that someone else is wearing but it doesn’t mean it’s going to flatter you.

You need to have a thorough consultation with both your stylist and colourist before you make any changes as they should be able help you decide what’ll work best for you as an individual

Loads of celebrities have a signature look – like Sienna Miller with her beautiful blonde shade and boho style – and it works because they’re being true to themselves and they know what suits them.

That doesn’t mean that you should stick with the same cut and colour forever though! Subtle up-dates and changes to your shade and cut will ensure that you stay up-to-date and still look modern.

Can guys get a new look for the new year too?

Of course, we have loads of guys that come to us at the salon looking for a different look.

There’s plenty of great styles for guys, whether they want something that’s classic or completely on-trend. David Beckham’s hair always looks great, he’s a real style icon for loads of men.

I’m growing my hair, so I don’t want to lose any length and I’m happy with my current colour as I know that it suits me, but I still fancy a different look. What can I do?

Why not go for some hair extensions? You don’t have to lose length for a new look, you can just add to extensions Shrewsbury & Wolverhampton Hair Salon

Hair extensions are great for re-inventing your look. You can use them to add length, thickness, texture and even colour to your hair. We use Rapture extensions at the salon and application takes only 30-40 minutes for a full head, so it’s a quick and easy process and the results are amazing.

Is there a way of transforming hair that’s damaged?

Yes, there’s an amazing three step programme called Olaplex. It’s used by A-listers like Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow and it works by repairing bonds within the hair shaft, known as disulphide bonds. These are broken down during processes like colouring and heating, leaving the hair weak and damaged.

Repairing the bonds improves the condition and texture of the hair. Olaplex works from the inside to fix damage, unlike masks and conditioners that just form a temporary surface.

It can be used as a standalone treatment or used as part of the colouring process at the salon. The results are incredible and our clients have been delighted with their rejuvenated, silky, shiny tresses.

We’ve heard that a treatment called Kerastraight can help tame unruly hair.

Yes, the Kerastraight Smoothing System is really popular. Our clients love it because it’s a luxurious treatment that removes frizz and tames tresses for up to four months, whilst maximising condition and leaving the hair glossy and super shiny.  If you want a fabulous hairstyle but struggle because your hair is difficult to manage, Kerastraight is fantastic.

Just getting frizz under control and creating a shiny, glossy look is enough for clients to feel they’ve had a new look – whether they opt for a different cut and colour or not.
